Kitsch Commercials Part 1: Eagle Insurance of Chicago

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Once in a while I find something that simply leaves me speechless.

The following commercial is real.

No, seriously…Eagle Insurance of Chicago created it………………and……….it’s the best/worst commercial ever……….

Let’s just say someone in an eagle suit lays an egg on a car insurance customer’s car. Wow:

Cartoon Network Boston Campaign for Aqua Teen Hunger Force Kicks Ass

Okay, okay…this campaign has already gotten enough media attention, but I just have to say this: WOW, WOW, WOW, HELL YEAH!

I can only imagine what Time Warner (the parent company of Cartoon Network) must be thinking…here are a couple thoughts I would be having if I was the CMO or a brand manager at Cartoon Network:

1) “Holy Jesus. You’re telling me our campaign shutdown all of Boston? SWEET!”

2) “So what you’re saying is all of Boston knows about Aqua Teen Hunger Force now and knows we created this campaign as a teaser for the movie we’re about to open?”

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie trailer:

3) “Oh, so the entire county knows about the show now? What’s that you say? The news is breaking internationally? Poor us….can we give our agency some more money to pull off more campaigns like this?”

4) “How do we pretend to care that we shutdown Boston while garnering as much media attention as possible?”

5) “Man I hope some concerned mothers picket in front of the movie opening……while their children slip in behind them and pay $10.25 to see the show. Yeah, that would make news. How else can we piss off moms and other folks who have no sense of humor?”

I just love it. We’re so scared!

….no I don’t really want to piss off moms…cause they have enough to worry about….and no I not glad we’re scared.  It’s kinda sad/necessary actually.

Political Campaigning Via Broadband Video

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

It’s no surprise that Broadband Video is the perfect channel through which politicians can reach their varied and desired target audiences.

Ken Liebeskind of ShootOnline’s iSpot gives a good recap of it’s initial usage thus far in the 2008 Presidential campaign:

“Candidates Use Broadband Videos To Announce Presidential Bids”

I’m quoted in the article and agree with is conclusions. I have to say though that the last qoute should read:

“What we call ‘web 2.0′ technology is enabling users to share media. This sharing ability creates social media. People can comment on it, tag it, mash it up, and foward it on. How do you interact with a TV spot? Really?”

I’m looking forward to working on some interesting interactive implementations this political season and seeing how the rest of the field embraces the new tools that have been created for them to use.

It hasn’t hit the mainstream yet as it is still a little early in this election season, but the political marketing/campaigning buzz will center around the social media aspect of each campaign.

You know what though…I have to wonder if a democratic candidate will create a profile on myspace (owned by FOX> FOX no likey ‘democrate party’ [sic]). Will a republican?

BMW Uses Nintendo 64 Kid Video in New Ad

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Frankly, I’m speechless.

I just saw a new BMW commercial on NBC that featured the “Nintendo 64 Kid” aka “N64 Kid”. The overly enthusiastic response to receiving an N64 console is used to elicit a connection with BMW’s holiday messaging: “remember when wishes came true, they still can”.

Anyhow, I’m interested in how this actually developed. Obviously, the N64 kid was uploaded to YouTube originally, but did YouTube broker this deal? Or did N64 kid’s handlers hook this up?

Anyone with info please comment.

Oh, my video blogger Plugin is screwing up. Until I fix it, check out the Original N64 Kid Video and the new BMW N64 Kid Video on YouTube directly.

YouTube Smirnoff ‘Tea Partay’

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Bartle Bogle Hegarty has created a YouTube viral execution spoofing hip-hop culture.

Think: Yuppies rapping in Vineyard Vines attire - and instead of swilling Cristal, they’re pouring out Smirnoff Raw Tea for their homies.

Analysis: At first sight this effort by BBH seems dead on. I loved the video on YouTube. However, I have to ask…Why doesn’t teapartay.com have any related content? When you go to the site you are redirected to Smirnoff’s general site, where Smirnoff Ice is prominantly displayed. Even worse, there is a banner in the bottom right of the homepage that has Tea Partay imagery, but it says “coming soon” and you can’t click through. Did BBH not have enought time to make this a complete package? WTF? Looks like the microsite is up.
